About Us

Who we are

Ossory Forest School was founded in June 2026 by Rathdowney-born Liza in order to provide an opportunity for children and adults to play, create and be in the outdoors, to strengthen community, build friendships and enjoy a greater sense of wellbeing. Liza works alongside a team of local assistant leaders who are vetted through the Irish Forest School Association and are enthusiasts of the outdoor and Forest School approach.

How do we ensure that participants are safe?

Liza completed her training as an Irish Forest School Leader with Brigid’s Garden in 2026 and is a member of the Irish Forest School Association. She has Outdoor First Aid Training and is Garda vetted. Ratios are kept low in order to meet our health and safety as well as safeguarding requirements, and in order to follow our risk benefit assessment protocols. Please see ‘Our Policies’ where we outline all of the measures we put in place to ensure that participants are facilitated to have a safe and happy experience at Ossory Forest School.

Children’s Forest School Camps and Afterschool Programmes

Immersive outdoor camps and six-week afterschool programmes fostering creativity, free-play, and nature connection tailored for young explorers up to teenagers. We can provide weekly sessions at a location that suits you, or come to one of our designated Forest School locations in nature. See ‘Events and Booking’ to find out what is happening and when!

Community Skill-Building Workshops

Hands-on sessions in crafts, bushcraft, and storytelling to inspire confidence and practical skills. We are happy to offer our services to day-centres for the elderly, people with disabilities, special schools and organizations working in the community in the Laois / Kilkenny / Tipperary region. Please contact us for further information.

Adult Nature Immersion Programs

Engaging seasonal experiences promoting wellbeing and mindfulness through music, nature, and shared stories. We celebrate Lúnasa, Samhain, Nollaig, Imbolc (Brigid’s Day) as well as the Solstice, Equinox and Bealtaine through our connection with the outdoors, our heritage and the wisdom of our ancestors. We learn crafts, forage, cook, set intentions, burn fires, come together in community and share. These workshops are offered locally and in different locations.
